불혹의 관록을 가진 밴드 Def Leppard...

 

 영국 밴드 데프 레퍼드 / Def Leppard 는 1977 년에 결성된 후, 지금까지 활동하고 있는 장수 하드 록 밴드 입니다. 40년이란 시간 동안 활동해 온 만큼 정말 많은 우여곡절을 겪은 밴드죠. 특히 기타를 맡고 있던 스티브 클락의 알콜 중독 사망이나, 드럼의 릭 알렌의 교통사고는 충격이었죠. 새로운 멤버 비비안 캠벨이 합류하고, 한쪽 팔을 잃은 릭 알렌이 드러머로 재기에 성공하면서 밴드는 안정을 찾아갔습니다.

 

 

 

1987년 발매한 <Hysteria> 는 데프 레퍼드를 설명할 때, 빼 놓을 수 없는 앨범입니다. 이들의 4번 째 앨범이자, 미국 빌보드 앨범차트 1위를 기록한 앨범이며, 릭 알렌이 드러머로 재기한 앨범, 기타리스트 스티브 클락의 마지막 참여 앨범이기 때문이죠. 사고로 왼 팔을 잃었음에도 릭 알렌은 데프 레퍼드의 드러머를 포기하지 않았고, 멤버들은 대체 멤버를 구하지 않고 그를 기다린 일화는 이 팀에는 너무나 유명한 역사가 되었습니다.

 

 

 

현재 멤버 구성은 Joe Elliott(보컬, 기타), Rick Savage(베이스, 키보드, 보컬), Rick Allen(드럼), Phil Collen(기타, 보컬), Vivian Campbell(기타, 보컬) 로 비비안 캠벨의 합류를 마지막으로 현재까지 활동하고 있습니다.  

 

 

 

'Hysteria' 는 편안하게 맞아주는 일렉기타의 아르페지오, 보컬과는 또 다른 멜로디 라인을 형성하는 기타 솔로, 묵직하고 스트레이트하게 중심을 잡는 록 베이스, 한쪽 팔만으로 치는 드럼이라고는 믿을 수 없는 드럼, 멤버들의 풍성한 코러스, 거칠은 질감의 금속성 보컬 톤까지 곡의 구석구석까지 놓치지 말고 들어봐야 할 가치의 음악이라고 하겠습니다.
