The Offspring - Gone Away / 오프스프링 - 곤어웨이

밴드 활동을 해본 이에게, 첫 밴드의 첫 곡은 각별하다. 필자에겐 이 곡, 'The Offspring - Gone Away / 오프스프링 - 곤어웨이' 가 그렇다. 벌써 오랜 시간이 흘렀다. 첫 합주의 설레는 마음 가득, 긴장 백 프로, 식은땀이 줄줄줄... 첫 합주는 그랬다. 굉장히 떨리고, 긴장된 순간이지만 인생에서 매우 새로웠던 순간 중 하나다. 

 

합주곡 2곡이 있는 처음 시작하는 밴드에게 필자는 큰 욕심을 부렸다. 무려 렌탈 합주실을 3시간이나 빌렸다. 3시간 동안 2곡을 가지고 죽어라 합주하는 건... 음... 참 괴로운 일이다. 그 두곡 중 한 곡이 이 곡이다. 

 

 

Gone Away 는 직선적이고 아주 단순한 곡이다. 펑크 록 밴드의 화법이 그렇듯, 음악을 돌려 전달하지 않는다. 가슴으로 직진! 그것이 그들의 화법이었고, 이 곡이 그렇다. 덕분에 얻어지는 큰 이득이라면 커버가 쉬운 편이다. 그래서 많은 초보 밴드들이 펑크 밴드의 곡을 많이 커버하곤 했다.

 

그 당시 나의 기타 스승님은 이런 코멘트를 남기셨다.

 

'어떻게 쉬우면서 좋은 곡을 잘 찾았네.'
